The Bible says that,
-
God made Adam and Eve
-
Adam and Eve were the first humans
-
Adam and Eve chose to reject God and go their own way
-
All mankind is descended from them
-
The Original Sin of Adam and Eve means that all mankind is fallen, sinful and in rebellion
towards God
-
We can never be perfect, never be good enough for God, no matter how hard we try
-
If God is just, he cannot let rebellion go unpunished
-
The consequence of this should be our eternal separation from God (which is hell)
-
We deserve death
-
But, God loves us and has provided a way back to him through Jesus
-
The sacrifice of a righteous perfect life (Jesus) satisfies God’s justice and secures forgiveness for
those who put their faith in Him
-
There is hope, you can find peace, forgiveness, acceptance, security
Consider this: Do you have to teach a child to lie? No, they do it "naturally". This supports the idea
that our default setting is not righteous (i.e. perfect and good) but rather sinful and selfish.
"They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the
Creator—who is forever praised" Romans 1:25. Adam and Eve decided that they didn't need God,
that they could be in control of their own lives and be, in a sense, their own
god. They chose
independence from God. Big mistake. They didn't realise that actually they were totally dependent
on God for their life and that without him they would die. It's easy to relate to Adam and Eve. All of us
would naturally choose to be independent from God – we want it OUR way!
But, God loved them, as he loves you, and he was prepared to forgive Adam and Eve. However, there
needed to be justice; someone or something had to pay for the mistake. This led to the first animal
sacrifice -
God sacrificed an animal and used the skin to clothe Adam and Eve. The pattern was then
set for mankind, making mistakes against God (called
sin) and the need for a sacrifice. In Old
Testament times this was achieved by the High Priest offering animal sacrifices.
However, God then chose to provide one ultimate sacrifice, and sent his son, Jesus, who is fully man
and fully God, to die on the cross for all our sins.
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord"
Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you
created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being."
We all need God - he has provided Jesus as our Saviour for all who repent, turn to him and accept
Jesus as Lord.
